Step Inside the Story of Willow Woman Creations

Where Craft and Story Are Woven Together.

About Me

Welcome to my world of crafting

I’m Ellen, a crafter and teacher of many years. I started crafting during Nursing School back in the 1970’s as a way of decompressing from the intensities of school and then patient care. I have always enjoyed sewing, making many of my own clothes, and my first crafting projects were the “bleach bottle dolls,” soaps and candles of the 1970’s. I loved the creative process back then and still enjoy sitting down at my table today.

My mosaics and needle felting

Today, as a practicing RN and now Nurse Practitioner for 50 years, I still enjoy my profession, but continue to need the decompressing of the intensities of patient care. I now enjoy making one-of-a-kind items from glass, broken china, and other mixed media for my mosaics; and Spirit Ladies and other critters (both 3D &2D) for my needle felting from wool.
The fun of my kind of crafting is that no 2 items are ever the same. Both mosaics and needle felting projects take on a “life of their own” as I craft them, sometimes not even looking like what I had in mind at the beginning of the process. But glass/china never cuts/breaks the same and wool doesn’t always felt as intensely, so although items may look the same, they are never identical.
Being raised on a small sheep farm, I learned to love and respect Mother Earth, her gifts, and her animals. I often feel I have come full circle with my needle felting; caring for the sheep when I was younger and now working with wool in my crafting.
